ScribeFire for Chrome Available for Alpha Testing
Filed under: Announcements, Google Chrome, Releases, ScribeFire -- Christopher Finke @ 07:56pmThe very first alpha version of ScribeFire for Google Chrome is now available for testing. If you are running Google Chrome and would like to test this bleeding-edge version of ScribeFire, you can install it by clicking on the scribefire-0.1.0.0.crx link here.
After you install ScribeFire for Chrome, you'll see a ScribeFire icon in your toolbar. When clicked, that icon will open a new tab that contains the ScribeFire editor. That editor will look like this:

I've tried to keep the interface so simple that even a caveman could use it. If you can't use it without me explaining it in detail, then I haven't done my job properly.
Here is a list of features that are expected to work in this first alpha:
- Adding blogs from Wordpress, Blogger, TypePad, Windows Live Spaces, Tumblr, or any blog that explicitly supports the MetaWeblog or MovableType APIs. You should be able to remove these blogs as well, once they have been added.
- Creating new posts for any of the above.
- Editing existing posts for any of the above.
- Saving a post as a draft.
- Tagging and categorizing posts.
- Deleting posts.
- WYSIWYG editor
- HTML Editor (click the "Source" button in the editor's toolbar)
If you have problems in any of these areas, report a bug by filling out this form at the ScribeFire for Google Chrome project website. To request a feature for a future version, fill out this feature request form.

I love it so far. The one thing that I like best about it is that it adds the tag. This is using TinyMCE right?

the html code in the comments gets stripped. I meant to say its add the paragraph tag.

Much as I don’t usually use it, I kind of miss being able to post to LJ, however, I assume that will come in later versions. Likewise for Posterous.

Amazing. All features works fine so far.
And it will be more amazing if I can change the post time and have auto-savings at local computer.
I don’t want to have the <p> tag… Is there a solution if I can adjust it?

What about a live “preview as you write” like Windows Live Messenger since 10 years? THAT would rock. Until then, I’ll stick with Windows Live Writer because I want to know how it looks like while writing my text.
April 16th, 2010 at 12:27 pm
PS: Why don’t you add it to the Chrome extensions directory?

Chris, you should definitely remove this tracker from scribefire. It’s widely perceived as very bad style and costs you so much credibility in the community.
All the Rest is to the Best!

What tracker are you referring to? The Zemanta stats code was made explicity opt-in in ScribeFire 3.5.1, if that’s what you’re referring to.

Chris, the download link at code.google.com reports that “This file has been deprecated. Another filed would probably be better. Do you want to continue?” I cancelled.
What’s this mean? Do you have a better download location?
Thanks.

I am a fan of the PageNavi, mostly for the search engines getting around the site and indexing all the content … and yes it is also helpful to the visitor going to look at embed article for my blogs. I am using a different plug in now but it is still to easy to copy my stuff. Thanks for the info

What sucks is scribefire for Chrome and safari look so awesome, and scribefire for firefox looks like total crap. Why can’t the one for firefox look as nice as this?
July 15th, 2010 at 1:20 pm
I’m working on that.

What about the right click and send to Scribefire feature that adds highlighted text in blockquotes and auto creates a backlink? That is my quickfire favorite way to blog and a must have feature on Scribefire.
