ScribeFire and Twitter

Filed under: ScribeFire, Twitter -- Christopher Finke @ 01:17pm

A lot of people request that ScribeFire be updated so that it can post to Twitter, since ScribeFire is a blogging tool and Twitter is a micro-blog. I don’t have any immediate plans to add this feature, since there is another Firefox add-on that satisfies this need in a way that complements ScribeFire.

It’s called TwitterBar, and it’s another one of my projects. It lets you tweet and post links to Twitter directly from your browser’s address bar: Just type your message in the address bar and then type –post (no need to press Return), or click on the Twitter icon at the end of the address bar to post it to Twitter.

If you want to use Twitter to share links to your blog posts, just publish your post as you normally do with ScribeFire, open your post after it’s published, and click on the Twitter icon in the address bar. It will post a link to your blog post on Twitter, and you can even tell TwitterBar to include the title of your post as well.

If you’d like to try out TwitterBar, you can install it from Mozilla Add-ons. It’s on Mozilla’s list of recommended add-ons, and it’s one of the highest rated add-ons in the “Social & Communication” category, so you can be guaranteed that other users have found it helpful.

I agree that twitter’s a micro-blogging tool and separate from regular blogging. But everytime I finish writing a blog post, I always want to twitter about it. How about an option that you can publish your blog post AND grab a short-url link (mainly to twitter) in one shot? It’ll save a couple steps, which is a big deal in the long run.

One of the things I wish scribefire would do (unless I just haven’t noticed it) is that once I finish publishing, I can do a view blog, I wish it could be a “view post.” It doesn’t always translate 100% so I always wan to check it out.

Hey Shahryar you can indeed preview before publishing or see your blog after publishing with Scribefire.

Just hit the preview button in the editor and you can see what it will look like on the blog of your choice. There are three tabs on top, editor mode, HTML mode and Preview mode. That preview mode will let you preview it in your blog of choice. After you hit the publish button, three buttons should come up asking if you want to clear the content, keep the content, and view blog. Again you can see your blog post.

Keep it as a blogging tool only. Forget twitter there are enough things out there for that.

    Stay focused

I agree stay with keeping scribefire as the best blogging tool

There are plugins that can be added to Wordpress users that do this automatically as well. Wordpress users should simple browse the Plugins area at Wordpress.Org

For some reason since WordPress 2.8 has been released, ScribeFire cannot communicate with the xml/rpc file. Not sure if you are hearing this from anyone else …

    Hello!

I wont to make a suggestion. I hope I’m not off topic by posting my comment here, but I could not make any comment on the page about the blogging platforms supported by ScribeFire.

I would like to suggest you to make ScribeFire compatible with another blog platform, very used in my country. It’s a bout Weblog.ro at http://www.weblog.ro . Is a Romanian blogging platform, in my opinion – the biggest and most popular among Romanian platforms, and it has also a section for English and Hungarian.

I got 3 of my blogs on weblog.ro and 2 of them are my favorites. My intention is to repair my web connection and to start again to blog, and ScribeFire would be of very much help.

Please, include weblog.ro among the ScribeFire family.

Otherwise, I worn you, I’ll contact my fellow weblog.ro bloggers and I’ll suggest them to use ScribeFire and to nag you with similar sugestions as mine! ;-)

    Thanks!

Twitter is very addictive. I like Twitter more than blogging. the messages are short and straight to the point.

I’m not getting communication with RPC/XML file since 2.8 either. Scribefire won’t post

Any chances of making ScribeFire compatible with Blogger? That’s the only thing I don’t like about it, otherwise it’s very cool :)

Happened across this while looking at possible blogging software for a technophobe and I saw this…

“Just type your message in the address bar and then type –post (no need to press Return)”

Now, maybe I’m misinterpreting this somehow… but how in the world can typing six characters be even *slightly* more convenient than just hitting the Return key once? It just doesn’t make any sense to me at all.

@Film2TV Thanks for the response. I will pay attention to preview more. But I still wish that after the post is made that I could go straight to the blog post blog post, not just the blog

Hey, thanks for the efforts you have taken in building Scribefire. I am finding it very useful for my wordpress blogs. One question: Where are these articles stored? If I lose my articles in the server, I can go and access it from scribefire, i know but I am a bit nervous about going in to the browser everytime to take something. So, are these individual posts that I blog through scribefire stored in any format in my computer? I mainly want to have a back up in my external hard disk, that’s why i am asking. Thanks,

I have a question. Will there be a Scribefire release for Google Crome?
I tend to use both web browsers and it would make my life much easier if I could post to my blogs without having to switch to mozilla everytime i’m not using it. Thanks!

It’s a really good addon, I use Twitter ALL day so tweeting from the page I’m on is far quicker than having to nav to the site each time. Love it.

I’d like to see twitter links integrated into scribefire so that you can add related links from twitter, including a link or avatar of the user who tweeted the link, as well on the topic you are blogging about. I use blogger, as far as I’m concerned there isn’t a plugin for this as there might be on wordpress or other platforms.

    Thanks!

    PS
When will adding images be fixed!! I have posts ready to go but now need to manually submit them :(

I love Scribefire and Wordpress. I’m working in a wordpress plugin that will enable to send Twitter information when you make a wordpress posts. It is in beta version but I think is working very well right now(IT IS NOT PUBLISHED YET). It can detect when you make new or edited posts and it can be customized to use custom filters.
It will work with Scribefire or the normal WP editor since it can detect xmlrpc posting.

The plugin will be published for the end of this month ( January 30-31,2010).
I encouraged to test it and give me some feedback to enhance this plugin.
Thanks and have a nice day.
    Fernando
