ScribeFire 2.0 Released!
Filed under: Releases, ScribeFire -- Christopher Finke @ 09:24am
I’m pleased to announce that we’ve released version 2.0 of ScribeFire, the most popular blogging tool for Firefox. You can install it at Mozilla Add-ons.
We’ve made some huge improvements since the last release, including (but not limited to):
- Tabbed editing of posts, so you can open multiple posts or notes at the same time
- Added the Quickblogging feature for easy modification of existing blog posts.
- All users can now set the timestamp of their posts, not just those using Firefox 3
- Fixes to the account wizard make for a better account setup experience
- A cleaner layout: the left sidebar has been shrunk and the Delicious/Technorati functions have been combined under a new “Share/Promote” tab that also helps you submit your posts to social bookmark sites.
- Fixed YouTube embedding for Blogger users
- Added custom ping URL option
- Added easy YouTube and Flickr integration
- Major fixes for using ScribeFire in its own tab or window
You can read the full list of changes at the version 2.0 changelog. If you need to file a bug report or would like to request a feature, you can do so by filling out this form. It’s your feedback that has made ScribeFire so popular, and it’s your feedback that will continue to help us make it the best possible blogging tool.

Hi! You’ve made great plugin! Thx!
But could you add in such blogs as diary.ru? ^_^
Or it’ll be great if you’ll add presets for some blogs.
P.S.
Sorry for my english, if there’s some mistakes -_-

Hi,
Great tool, great improvements! Tnx for the efforts!

Nice! A quick check:
Note: Some bugs are reproducible only when leaving the editor with F8 and opening it again with F8. Some issues seem to magically vanish after some work.
(This bug seems to magically vanish after some work. Will have to watch it to make it reproducible.)
‘Clear content’ is clearing but I can not type along in the RTF tab immediately. 1st I have to switch to code, type something and switch back.
Bug with strong followed by em.
Don’t go to the code tab in between!
Mark a line
Make it strong
Mark the line again
Make it em
I get: text
‘Disable Quick Blogging’ mark is not remembered.
Set ‘Disable Quick Blogging’ to true.
Leave with F8
Open with F8
‘Disable Quick Blogging’ mark is not there (but it works in the ‘invisible’ mode).
No horizontal or vertical scrollbar when right pane is open.
No text wrapping when right pane is open (text is simply hidden below right pane).
GUI: Preview mode: Article title should show up where normally the SF toolbar is.
GUI: Multiple tabs are still jumping when hovered over.
GUI: Right pane is closed: I get a horizontal scrollbar for the browser (FF 2.0.0.14, W2K).
Text marking: Ctrl-Shift-left or -right does not mark words when in RTF mode ( (FF 2.0.0.14, W2K).Code mode works fine. (I think this is a pretty old bug)
Btw: Can’t use CoComment with your new blog design. ‘Sending to CoComment server..’ runs into a loop.

When you publish an entry you no longer have the option of keeping the content…only OK to clear content and a button to visit blog. This makes it difficult when you publish the same content to several different blogs. I had to go back to the previous version.

Somehow a post I edited using Scribefire was automatically (without me modifying the post’s timestamp) dated to be published some time in the future (~ 1h).
Also, there’s something wrong when trying to publish a new post:
when the post was published via Scribefire, it appears as “Scheduled” in the Wordpress admin panel. There seems to be sth wrong with the timestamps (but only some minutes).

Just noticed another issue:
Links in the “Live Preview” won’t be opened anymore, e.g. a middle click doesn’t open the page in a new firefox tab.
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:37 am
More issues (sorry
):
- Scribefire doesn’t remember the editing view: it now always starts in “Rich editing” mode
- when clicking the “Entries” tab, the “Notes” page is preselected; Scribefire forgets that “Posts” was selected before (which is far more useful)
I guess I’ll have to switch back to the previous version.
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:44 am
daniel: I’ve fixed the ‘Notes page is preselected’ problem for the next release.

Well… I noticed that the youtube video adder uses youtubes own syntax for embedding.
Is it possible to use the syntax from this:
http://www.bernzilla.com/item.php?id=681
instead? As it makes the embedding to be valid xhtml.
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:59 am
Daniel C: It is converted to valid XHTML when you publish the post.

Wow was I surprised to see the new toolbar and plugin this morning when it downloaded. Excellent job.
The only think keeping me from using scribefire full time is the twitter tools plugin has a check box to post an update to twitter when it posts and I have to go back into wordpress, edit the entry and check the send to twitter checkbox. Not a huge deal, but still keeps me from using scribefire as much.
Thanks again though for all the good work. The flickr and youtube add-ons were welcome additions!

Thought I’d let you know a few issues I’m having with the new release.
First every post I open defaults to the rich editor view. I prefer to write in the code view. Please allow me to set that as a default in some way. Some of my posts require code and the rich editor reformats some of the code I write.
Second the notes tab has become mostly useless. Some notes when saved are creating new notes instead of saving the old one. I have one note listed 4 times in the notes tab at the moment. I also can’t delete any notes.
Thanks

Very good work, but I’d let you know one issue I’m having
When i publish a new post via ScribeFire appears as “Scheduled” in the Wordpress admin panel and never appears on the blog.
Thanks!
April 23rd, 2008 at 1:33 pm
Steven: Both of those issues have been fixed for the next release.
April 23rd, 2008 at 1:36 pm
GDMaster: Make sure you’re typing in the source mode, not the rich-text mode.
April 23rd, 2008 at 2:11 pm
Blogger Youtube embedding fixed? Thanks, this has been an annoyance for me for a long time!
April 23rd, 2008 at 2:34 pm
@Christopher Finke : yes – I always use the source mode. but after saving the html-code ist modifyed. It is a great tool. but with the opportunity to change that it would be better ^^.
April 23rd, 2008 at 11:52 pm
I’m having the same problem with No. 12 and No. 26.
My posts appear as “Scheduled” in the Wordpress admin panel.
To prevent this, I have to click “Modify Timestamp” everytime I edit posts.
It’s like this is a function for “maintaining timestamp.”
Other than that…it’s just amazing!
Much better than I expected.
Thanks!

Windows XP, Firefox 2.0.0.14:
Not sure where this error is coming from, but have a look at this screenshot. On this page:
http://www.13wham.com/news/local/story.aspx?content_id=6952257b-c8c8-4b7d-a4e8-98471b821996&rss=102
I selected text and right-clicked to use the “blog this” context menu. When the ScribeFire window appeared, I got two tabs, one blank and the other with the content. Notice that it didn’t convert the quotations correctly. What you cannot see from the screenshot is the fact that text is not editable in the Rich Text view. It is editable ii the Source Editing view.
If, however, the ScribeFire pane is already open, you don’t have a problem with special characters, though I have still had issues with editing in Rich Text mode.

Very cool work. Only some sugestions:
1-) Please check the Image Upload tool.
2-) A generic file uploader could be great also?
3-) For Wordpress blogs could be created a Media Gallery Manager plugin for Scribefire;
4-) Please, integrate shortcuts, so we could work on them with keyconfig and others.

is there is anyway to be able to upload images through imageshack ?
like a bottom next to API and FTP ?
April 25th, 2008 at 10:57 pm
Version 2.0.2 was just automatically installed.
Problem: The QuickBlogging tool no longer appears. I have switched the preferences to on and disabled and back again.
Still, no QuickBlogging toolbar.
I even deleted then re-added my blog.
Nothing.
Thought you should know.
