Feature preview: Quickblogging

Filed under: Preview, Quickblogging, Releases, ScribeFire -- Christopher Finke @ 11:58am

The next release of ScribeFire will have a new feature called Quickblogging. Quickblogging will allow you to edit your blog posts without ever opening the ScribeFire editor. Here’s how it works:

Once you’ve added your blog to ScribeFire, any time you view your blog in the browser, the Quickblogging toolbar will appear:

ScribeFire's Quickblogging toolbar

The first button gives you quick access to the ScribeFire editor, and the remaining buttons allow you to add elements to your posts: photographs from Flickr, YouTube videos, links, quotes, etc. Click on any of them, and you’ll be walked through the rest of the process. For example, take a look at adding a picture from Flickr to an existing blog post:

Adding a picture from Flickr with Quickblogging: Step 0 Adding a picture from Flickr with Quickblogging: Step 1 Adding a picture from Flickr with Quickblogging: Step 2 Adding a picture from Flickr with Quickblogging: Step 3 Adding a picture from Flickr with Quickblogging: Step 4

(Full documentation of the Quickblogging features is being assembled here.)

If you’re interested in trying out this new feature before its general release, you can install this preview release. Feedback is welcome and encouraged.

Holy crap, that’s amazing! Chris, you are really cranking out some stellar updates at a rapid fire pac right now. Thanks! I am recommending ScribeFire to everyone I know.

    Wow Chris,

a quick publish button on the quick publish add on. How quick publish can we get? Maybe an auto publish feature that will publish stuff to my blog based on stuff I have publish already or thought about during the last few hours? :-0

Seriously, I have just got Scribe fire working with my new Joomla v1.5 site and I’m delighted that it will publish to the section and category in the content hierarchy. This is going to move Joomla forward as well in my view. (I found a issue with FTPing images to the wrong place (I think) but I will post that in the bug listings).

Scribe fire is a great tool in the blog editing canon. Thanks.

    Love and Dynamite.

    OK, here’s a couple problems I’ve found:

    1. When selecting text and context-menu selecting “blog this,” it doesn’t add the text to the writing window. Once the writing window is open, if you try again, it works.

    2. BIG problem, for me, anyway: if you’ve got one tab open and select-and-blog, then go to the second window, it overwrites the first. That sucks, because I’ve been in the habit of selecting several passages from one page or multiples and expected all the stuff to follow me.

    Thanks, guys!

I’m also seeing an issue wherein the content is not saved when you close the ScribeFire window/pane.

DragonFlyEye: I’ve fixed #1 for the next release. I can’t get #2 to happen to me – what operating system are you using?

Vous faite du bon boulot ! ;-)

J’ai test la version beta, j’attends avec impatience la version officiel.

PS: le plugin est vraiment pratique.

Surtout ne rajouté pas,ou ne modifier pas trop ce Plugin dans l’avenir, car, il perdrai toute son efficacité.

    You done a good job ! ;-)

I have the beta test, I look forward to the official version.

    PS :
    The plug is really convenient.

Especially not only added, or does not change too Plugin this in the future because it will lose all its effectiveness.

Hi I’m getting the following problem attempting to work with quickblogging bar. I click on any of the icons and then click the blog title as suggested, then I get the following: “ScribeFire couldn’t determine which post you clicked on. This feature may not be compatible with your blog.”

I’m running Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.4; en-US; rv:1.9.0.1) Gecko/2008070206 Firefox/3.0.1 and installed Scribefire just a couple of days ago. My blog is wordpress, one version old (I know I need to upgrade). ScribeFire is great btw.

    Any thoughts?

    Hi,

I am getting the same problem as Andy Darby (right above), and I do have a Mac OS X, Firefox 3.0.1 also. What can be causing the problem?

    Thanks for any help.

    Hi Christopher,

What an amazing tool this will be! Thanks!

However, when I import video or images, I DO NOT GET ANY FORMAT BUTTONS at the top of the window.
I’m thus unable to do anything with them – they are just stuck centre after the post text.

Is there a fix for that?

    (Firefox 3.0.8)

    Many thanks
    Kerry
