New preview release: many bugs fixed

Filed under: Preview, ScribeFire -- Christopher Finke @ 03:24pm

Update: Latest preview build is here.

I've posted the very latest pre-release build of ScribeFire at the Google Code project. Lots of bugs have been fixed in this build, including big ones related to manual configuration in the account wizard, the breaking of toolbar customization, and opening ScribeFire in its own tab. You can see the full list of recent changes to ScribeFire at the project's code commit log.

If you've installed any of the other pre-releases, you should upgrade to this one.

Checking my bug list (but it is late already).

OK: New Tab: Prefilled with invisible br and tab
OK: Posts: The list wasn't the actual list from a Blogger site. The same from a Textpattern site.

GUI: Two tabs: Tabs 'jump'. They become smaller on mouseover.

GUI: Did I mention that the menu icons disappear when you go to the preview tab. Confusing! Some info needed.

GUI: Blue rectangle without any function popping up when mouse goes over the main gray area above YouTube, Color, ol and ul icons (in the SF window frame).

GUI: Accidentally hitting the 'x' for 'close tab' makes a) either the content disappear like 'clear content' or b) makes the tab disappear without further notice. I like it but there should be a 'warning' preference!

Bug: YouTube: FlashBlock installed-> Can't activate flash through FlashBlock icon. Not even in preview tab.

Bug: Notes: Can't open a single note. Always an error message pops up: Sync Normal: TypeError: ... (Idea: Paste error text into editor window). All notes are pretty old.

Btw: My conf: W2K FF 2.0.0.13

    New issues:

!!! Regression for new articles: Pasting text in RTF and changing to code view makes text disappear.
Workaround: Go to preview and then to code view and the text will stay further on.

Bug: I can't make the right part of ScribeFire disappear (the blog list etc.).

Bug: I see word wrapping issues in code view i.e. when embedding a video from YouTube (The version before also had an ugly word wrapping bug in the RTF editor which seems to be gone).

Feature: I need a possibility to disable the del.icio.us tab. The initial loading of the keywords takes pretty long in my case :) And I don't use that feature.

    Markus: Great feedback!

    * The toolbar buttons disappear when in the preview tab on purpose. They don't do anything when you're previewing, so we made the decision to hide them.

    * I've fixed the bug with switching between RTF and code view.

    * I'll be adding back the toggle for hiding the right sidebar.

    Some requests:

Can you paste the full text of the error that pops up when you try and open a note?

    What OS are you running?

    > They don't do anything when you're previewing

I know but some message like 'preview mode' would be welcome from a GUI point of view.

    > Can you paste the full text of the error that pops up when you try and open a note?

"Sync Normal: TypeError: getContentWindow(winPreview).document.body has no properties"

    OS: Windows 2000 professional

    Feature request: Edit blog title.
    1. I have one with a long blog title which makes the right pane appear very wide.
    2. A Textpattern site can contain multiple sections. Each section is represented as one blog (which is OK). I want to add a leading shortcut to the blog title to see which section from which blog it is.

Bug tracking: In the info pane it would be nice to have a real ScribeFire version to be copied to the bug list.

Bug tracking: I saw that it is not possible to add found bugs to the Google repository. Do you prefer to add/edit alone or do you want participants to register?

    > Bug: YouTube: FlashBlock installed-> Can't activate flash through FlashBlock icon. Not even in preview tab.

Related: If not activated the FlashBlock code gets pasted into the editor. Possible solutions:
    a) This can be filtered easily and a warning must pop up.
    b) Clicking OK the YouTube code 'behind' the FlashBock item must be inserted.

Validation: The following code validates and works. The original YouTube code does not!

You need a flash player to see this movie.

This could be optional but default. To get the 'v' parameter shouldn't be a big problem :)

Oops, the valid code was filtered. If you need I can send it by mail.

    Hi,

Thanks for resuming active development on ScribeFire. I've been using it since the Performancing days, and I love it.

I'm using Firefox-3-beta-5 (3.0b5) on Mac OS X (Leopard). I don't know if you're currently developing ScribeFire for this platform, but here are some of the things I'm seeing:

1). Notes are never updated: a new note is saved each time I click on "Save Note" (even without changing title).

2). Switching from "Preview" to "HTML" mode always adds the title to the content (post body). So if you preview 10 times, you end up with the title appearing ten times in the post body itself. [Note that switching from Preview to Normal directly doesn't have this effect].

3). When I delete these titles in the "Normal" mode, I still find them in the HTML mode. [Note also that when I delete them in HTML mode, it gets deleted in Normal mode].

[Please forgive my long windings and poor grammar: English is my third language]

George: Your English is great! If you hadn't mentioned it, I wouldn't have known it wasn't your first language.

Each of the bugs you mentioned has been fixed in the latest preview release, which you can download at http://code.google.com/p/scribefire/downloads/detail?name=scribefire-r191.xpi

    Thanks for the update.

Looks like 2) and 3) have been fixed, but 1) persists. Anytime I edit an existing note (keeping the title unchanged) and click on "Save Note", it saves a _new_ note, instead of updating the existing one.

Also, an issue with http://FTP. I entered the wrong password the first time, and while trying to change the password, I got the error message:

    ======
    [Javascript Application]
Error saving FTP details [Exception... "'This login already exists.' when calling method: [nsILoginManager::addLogin]" nsresult: "0x8057001e (NS_ERROR_XPC_JS_THREW_STRING)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://performancing/content/performancingUtil.js :: anonymous :: line 329" data: no
    ======

It won't update the password, so I can't upload images via http://FTP.

George: Right you are. The notes problem is fixed in http://code.google.com/p/scribefire/downloads/detail?name=scribefire-r192.xpi, and I'm working on the FTP issue.

I installed the latest ScribeFire. Unfortunately, I can not post anymore. Any posts I write show in the blog as a post with a title and an empty body.

So far I was not able to produce a non-empty-bodied post with the new ScribeFire.
