Finally one feature was implemented that I was waiting for since ages. – the “lose content warning”

But this first implementation is first implementation is somehow irritating and in my opinion causes more trouble-confusion then being a help.

First a description of how I work so that you can understand my problem exactly:
I have a huge amount of notes and “jump” from one to another by clicking the notes name in the list constantly. Sometimes the content of a note needs to be updated. Right now the “warning – unsaved content” dialog comes up constantly when “switching” notes – even if there were no changes at all.

Second I find the current dialog rather confusing. it offers the option to save the current post as a new note. But what if I dont want that? I just want to UPDATE my OLD existing note and save over it?

Here is how I think this feature should work.
    - Dialog should only pop up if a change was made.
    - Dialog should say for example: this note was edited since you opened it. do you want to save your changes? YES NO Cancel (pressing enter in the KB should do the same like clicking YES)

Cancel would just close the dialog and bring you back to the editor and from there the user has still the option to do a “save as” by changing the title. (just like it is working right now already)

At this moment I need to go back to 1.4.7 since it slows me down and I did not find a toggle to turn this feature on and off.

Thanks a lot for reading and for this awesome piece of software. I use it everyday and it is a tremendous time saver!

PS: I saw in an older post that someone requested a possibility to rearrange notes. I would loeve to see that too ; )

I have mixed feelings about the warning.

I love the fact that it saves as a “new” note (it’s not really new since I usually use old notes and end up rewriting when the 2nd pop up shows). I like notes better than draft for my drafts. I have, when I first used the tool, made the mistake of switching from one page to another without saving, thus losing data. So I suppose in that respect I like the note.

However isn’t there a way to code it so that it can tell if you’ve actually changed something? I hate having pop-ups when all I’m doing is reading and switching between my notes .

Or at least the option to turn it off for those of us who are used -and totally fine- with the old system?

But good job though. I like the fact that you’re trying to make the tool even better.

    PS.
If I go to a blog (on scribefire), then an existing post, edit and publish it, it publishes it as a separate page. So I’d end up with two posts on my blog that are nearly the same. Is there a way for you to make it so that you can edit existing pages on scribefire and save them without creating another post?

    Jack and Caren:

Thanks for your input. I’m working on getting this to behave more smoothly for the next release.

How is the sidebar meant to work, and does it have any known issues working with wordpress blogs?

When i click on the tabs, the content remains the list of blogs I have added, which should only apply to the first tab, “blogs”.

First, thank you so much for this great software. It totally changed my blogging life.

I wonder if it’s a bug that this latest version seems to have disabled arrow buttons on keyboard that allow you to move without useing mouse. Somehow, arrows for going right and left work all right, but you can’t move upward or downward using kewboard. Since I installed 1.4.8, whenever I want to change something on upper or lower line, I have to use mouse and click the upper/lower line, and it’s very frustrating.
    Any idea how this happened?

(Those arrow keys works fine on “Source Editing” mode.)

At the moment, I would like to use 1.4.7 because of this problem, and also the pop-up for “save my current post as a new note” is slowing me down a lot.
Again, I really appreciate your great job, and I want to keep useing this amazing add-on.
Hope these problems will be solved soon!

    ScribeFire Suggestions

I have a few suggestions that would make ScribeFire great, not just good as it is now.

    1) First, create a tabbed interface. In the middle pane, there should be tabs for the post you are working on now and previous posts you open, etc. Make it so all of these things open in new tabs and tabs can be X’d out just as the tabs in firefox can. Make them reorderable, etc. Just make them work like the tabs in firefox, but EVERY link you click on in the right sidebar opens in a new tab, while the ones in the left sidebar are already tabs themselves, so think of those as vertical categories.

    2) Add support for the native blogging service UI. One easy way to do this is to do something similar to Apple’s “Web Clips” by clipping the “New Post” section on the WordPress, Blogger, etc. website so this way it just cuts out the “New Post” box on the site and stretches it and sticks it right into scribefire. Make it so you can choose the regular ScribeFire UI or use the Blogging service native UI this way

    3) Add support add media in posts, such as youtube vids, pictures easily, sound clips from the internet or from the comp, etc.

    Please add these very soon

    Thank you

I accidentally upgraded yesterday to this automatically in Firefox 2.0x and suddenly i can no longer use either the “swindow” or “tab” options. I thought another 2-3 extensions might be affecting things, so I removed them and rebooting Firefox, but to no avail. I’m seriously hoping I’ve missed something, else hoping the tabbed release comes out soon. (I can’t afford to monkey with the pre-release.) Otherwise my productivity is going to drop as a result.

ooops. I meant “window”, not “swindow”.

I’m not sure if I have another Firefox extension that is clashing, but I no longer can use all features of Scribefire. I’ve uninstall all new FF extensions that were installed around the same time that I accidentally installed 1.4.8. Before, I could use “tab”, “window”, and “browser” all at the same time. Now, I can only get one option to work – the first one I try. The rest just “spin” endlessly and never show up.

Any clues? This is making me miserable and had reduced my productivity. I’m tempted to uninstall ScribeFire, but am worried about losing all my “notes”.

Sorry for all the comments. I’m extremely frustrated, and now I’m pissed because I can’t seem to go back to an older version of ScribeFire. Every time I follow the link to an older version over at an Mozilla Addons page, I only get a button for 1.4.8.

    Please clue me in here.

Thanks for the info! Just so you are aware of it, I backtracked to 1.4.7 and all three options work fine now. So either something is wrong with 1.4.8 or one of the other FF extensions that got automatically upgraded clashes with it. I happened to notice that some specific extensions affect the behavior of ScribeFire 1.4.8 and had to uninstall them for now.

I’m crossing my fingers that I won’t have a problem with the final version of the new tabbed interface (ver 2.0?). I’ve been dreaming of that one, but still need to have the “window” option due to lack of vertical screen space.

jonsonroth: I can confirm that the window and tab options are working in the latest development version.

What extensions did you see conflicting with ScribeFire?
